A
good start to understanding Delhi and the Mughals is at
India’s largest mosque, Jami Masjid. Built in the
17th Century by Shah Jahan, the mosque is magnificent, religiously
important and historically significant. Surrounded by the
seething streets and bazaars of Old Delhi it is best to
see these from a bicycle rickshaw. After time in Old Delhi
visit the magnificent tomb of Humayun at Nizamuddin in New
Delhi and drive through the formal grid of wide, tree-lined
avenues. The grandest scheme of buildings in the history
of the British Empire has been the seat of the Indian central
government since 1931.
